The aim of this paper is to present an algorithm for sampling a continuous surface into discrete points while best preserving information on its shape. Given the boundary conditions, the solution is determined entirely by the surface shape function and the definition of neighbourhood. The paper is richly illustrated with the results of 6 experiments and literature data.
