The author gives a necessary and sufficient condition for an analytic Liénard system to have a local center at the origin. He proves the condition by using the Poincaré-Lyapunov method. The results obtained in the paper improve an old result of T. Saito, and he illustrates the main result by numerical examples with phase portraits.
