For abelian number fields, the author considers a slightly modified group of circular units, containing the usual one as defined by \textit{W. Sinnott} [Invent. Math. 62, 181-234 (1980; Zbl 0465.12001)], and obtains for its index in the full group of units a formula which is slightly easier than Sinnott's one.
