On quadratic relations between roots of polynomials (Q1355535)

The author gives what he calls a structural proof of a theorem on kernels of linear multiplicative homomorphisms by \textit{G. Baron}, \textit{M. Drmota}, and \textit{M. Skałba} [J. Algebra 177, 827-846 (1995; Zbl 0835.12003)], since he considers the proof by these latter authors to be ad hoc. Instead, the author under review uses representation theory of finite groups, especially the symmetric group. In the closing section of his paper, he discusses some cases where the hypothesis of the aforementioned theorem may be weakened allowing the conclusion to remain valid in certain cases.
