Necessary and sufficient conditions for the oscillations of the solutions of two classes of neutral linear difference equations \[ \Delta(A_n+ cA_{n-k})+ \sum_{j=0}^N p_j(n)A_{n-l_j}=0 \text{ and } \Delta(A_n+ cA_{n-k})- q_0(n)A_n- \sum_{j\in J}q_j(n) A_{n-m_j}=0 \] through the roots of the associated characteristic equations are obtained.
