The system of equations of radiation hydrodynamics is investigated from the viewpoint of the theory of PDE. Towards this end, we discuss the symmetrization problem for the system in question as well as various formulations of the problem. We derive local a priori estimates and a global a priori estimate, with which we prove the global existence theorem for a smooth solution to the Cauchy problem for this system.
