The author gives a method to obtain moment functions on hypergroups, based only on the geometric structure of the hypergroup and more precisely on the asymptotic behaviour of the convolution. He introduces the notion of directional drift of the convolution and in this general situation, he shows that moment functions exist. The results obtained are applied to some important classes of hypergroups such as Chébli-Trimèche hypergroups.
