The authors address the problem of accurately representing surface heating for meso-scale atmospheric flows and decide in favour of a stochastic representation as opposed to conventional strip heating. The linearized inviscid flow equations which take into account the Rayleigh damping and the above stochastic surface heating are solved analytically through spectral decomposition, and a number of mean properties of the resulting meso-scale flow are extracted and discussed.
