Thomas Harriot (1560-1621) has to be considered as Britain's greatest mathematical scientist before Newton. Unfortunately during his lifetime, he published nothing of his scientific discoveries. Even the main work associated with his name, the Artis analiticae praxis (1631) was published after his death by W. Waarner and does not give full credit to his algebraic work. The authors of this short note report on Harriot's contributions to algebra also comparing the published work with manuscript contributions.
