Let \(R\) be a Noetherian ring, \(I\) an ideal. Let \(\alpha: S(I)\to R[It]\) be the natural surjective map, where \(S(I)\) is the symmetric algebra of \(I\) and \(R[It]\) the Rees algebra. The author computes the number of generators and their degrees of the kernel of \(\alpha\) in certain cases.
