In the previous paper [Ark. Mat. 33, 323-341 (1995; Zbl 0872.35025)] the authors gave sufficient conditions for the Fredholmness of partial differential operators of irregular singular type of two independent variables in analytic and Gevrey spaces. These conditions were formulated in terms of Fredholmness of a certain Toeplitz operator, acting on the Hardy space on the two-dimensional torus. In this paper the authors prove the necessity of these sufficient conditions.
