In this paper the author gives a version of the Bernstein type inequality using the integral norm. The result is then applied to provide an alternate proof to an inequality relating to the Kreiss matrix theorem proved by \textit{M. N. Spijker} [BIT 3, No. 3, 551-555 (1991; Zbl 0736.15015)].
