In the theory of Kleinian groups the topology of quasiconformal deformation spaces is quite well understood whereas much remains to be done for a fuller understanding of the entire deformation spaces. To pave the way for further investigations the author sets out to provide tools to distinguish convergent sequences in the deformation space from divergent ones. A conjecture of Thurston in this direction is generalized to one for geometrically finite function groups. The purpose of this work is to prove the generalized conjecture for groups isomorphic to the free product of two closed surface groups under an additional technical assumption.
