It is the author's goal to find an empirically testable property that distinguishes Lorentzian spacetime models among the bigger class of Weylian spacetime models. It is the purpose of the paper under review, together with a companion paper [\textit{U. Schelb}, Gen. Relativ. Gravitation 28, 1321-1334 (1996; Zbl 0869.53059)], to present such a property that can be tested with the help of radar experiments.
