The author determines the densest packing of unit squares in an infinite strip \(B\) of width \(l\) when \(1\leq l<2\): If \(1\leq l\leq 2\sqrt 2-1\) the squares are packed with sides parallel to the boundary of \(B\); if \(2\sqrt 2-1\leq l<2\) they are tilted by \(45^\circ\).
