Computations of slowly moving shocks (Q1368172)

Because computations which use slowly moving shock-by-shock capturing schemes may generate oscillations, the authors derive a third-order modified equation for the upwind scheme and regard the oscillatory solution as a traveling wave solution for the parabolic modified equation plus a small perturbation. They show that, by employing an ``entropy fix'', one can eliminate the oscillations.
