The authors propose a conservative discrete model for linear vibrating strings and rods fixed at the end points. The model can be considered as a second-order unconditionally stable finite difference scheme for the classical linear equation which describes vibrations of strings and rods. Some numerical examples illustrate stability conditions, accuracy, and energy conservation.
