Using the total energy of the system, the author discusses the stability of fundamental equilibrium path and the mechanism of dynamic buckling. The individual and coupling effects of material and geometric nonlinearities are analyzed. The author establishes lower and upper estimates of buckling load, and presents several examples with two and three degrees of freedom.
