This is an addendum to an earlier paper by the author in this journal [ibid. 38, No. 11, 1231-1270 (1996; Zbl 0866.01007)]. It presents a summary of I. Todhunter's six essays, published together under the above title in 1873 by Macmillan, London. (Todhunter is remembered today chiefly as a historian of mathematics, for example, for his 1865 History of the mathematical theory of probability\dots). The essays treat of various educational topics to do with University teaching, specific to his time and place (Cambridge), but largely relevant still in countries whose university systems derive from the British tradition. The essays are entitled: 1. The conflict of studies (32 pp). 2. Competitive examinations (33 pp). 3. Private study of mathematics (39 pp). 4. Academic reform (32 pp). 5. Elementary geometry (57 pp). 6. The mathematical tripos.
