The authors study the buckling behaviour of rectangular von Kármán plates supported by a nonlinear elastic foundation. If the geometric parameters are chosen such that buckling close to a double eigenvalue occurs, the authors show that a great number of qualitatively different cases of loss of stability can occur including cases of mode jumping. Forty-five qualitatively different bifurcation diagrams are presented in the paper.
