A complete translation, with notes, of a letter that al-Kāshí wrote to his father from Samarkand about the situation there. This manuscript, published by the author in a book [Az Samarqand be Kāšān; Nāmahā-ye Ghiyàth al Dīn Jamšīd Kāšānī be pedaraš, Tehran Scientific and Cultural Publications (1996)] is anterior but similar in style to a letter published by \textit{E. S. Kennedy} [Orientalia 29, 191-213 (1960; Zbl 0102.24504)] and, in Turkish, by Aydın Sayılı.
