By using the random vibration analysis, the authors investigate the performance of tuned liquid column dampers (TLCD) for passive control of flexible structures under random seismic loading. The theory of nonstationary stochastic processes with frequency and amplitude modulation is used for the representation of the strong earthquake motions, whereas an equivalent linearization technique is employed for accounting of nonlinear damping forces in the TLCD.
