The author formulates perturbation equations which describe the onset of convection in a rotating axisymmetric container (an example of conical container is taken). The azimuthal velocity perturbation is expanded in terms of eigenfunctions, and it is shown that the resulting eigenvalue problem can be solved by a variational method or by finite difference methods.
