A single magnetic loop is used to model a solar flare. The basic mechanism that generates a flare is due to the pinch instability occurring after the footpoints are rotated. The authors solve numerically the standard ideal MHD equations for this model geometry and the plot results which show an explosive character of solutions: at a finite time, fluid velocities and plasma temperature become infinitely large.
