We develop a theory in which the constitutive relation for the fluid is kept relatively simple, but we allow the electric field to be variable and determined by solving Maxwell's equations. Additionally, we suppose that the electrorheological material can be mechanically incompressible but electrically compressible, or completely incompressible or compressible.
