The author investigates a stability problem in the framework of a generalized von Kármán type theory of plates, proposed by Reddy, that includes higher order shear effects. The plate is subjected to non-uniform loading, and initial geometrical imperfections are taken into account. A mixed Galerkin-perturbation technique is used to determine the thermal buckling load.
