The purpose is to demonstrate a convergent method by which a typical initial-boundary value problem in one-dimensional cyclic plasticity can be solved. We implement the method in a small scale by aid of a differential-algebraic equation solver Ddassl. The work consists of three parts: (1) we formulate the problem in a proper mathematical form; (2) we discretize the problem in space by a finite element method and prove a convergence rate of order \(\sqrt h\), where \(h\) is the size of the mesh; (3) we solve the resulting differential system in time by Ddassl.
