On the structure of cocommutative coalgebras (Q1373100)

The note proves the existence of a special basis for cocommutative coalgebras, called the \(\gamma_2\)-basis. This can be considered as a dual version of a result of \textit{J. P. May} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 23, 708-713 (1969; Zbl 0209.04601); Thm. 2]. The basis-free form of this result can be considered as the splitting theorem for \(\xi\)-modules of finite type.
