Rank-one updating of a generalized eigenvalue problem is investigated. The results are applied to full Toeplitz matrices related to the Laurent expansion of a rational function. It yields an extension of the method of \textit{S. L. Handy} and \textit{J. L. Barlow} for the banded Toeplitz case [SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 15, No. 1, 205-214 (1994; Zbl 0803.65043)].
