    The authors introduce the notion of c-Blumberg set to study the problem of improving continuity of functions. Let \(X\) be a metric space and \(f:X \to \mathbb R\) be a function. We say that \(B \subset X\) is a c-Blumberg set of \(f\) if \(B\) is dense in \(X\), the restriction of \(f\) on \(B\) is continuous (with respect to \(B\)) and all points of continuity of \(f\) are contained in \(B\). Let \(B\) be a c-Blumberg set of a function \(f\). We say that \(f\) is \(B\)-improvable if the restriction \(f|_{B}\) can be continuously extended from \(B\) on the whole space \(X\). It is shown (under some conditions on the space \(X\)) that the set of all Baire class one functions on \(X\), which are \(B\)-improvable for some c-Blumberg set \(B\), forms a ``small'' subset of the space of all Baire class one functions on \(X\). Functions which can be improved to continuous ones via certain transfinite process are also considered. The authors investigate how large the set of improvable functions of this kind is. Finally, the authors study the possibility of improving function to a function, which is right-sided Darboux and quasi-continuous at some prescribed point.
