The current distribution in an insulated antenna in nonhomogeneous media can be described by an integral equation of the first kind. The kernel of this integral equation depends on electrical properties outside the insulated antenna. Three different approximations are considered: thin insulation and thin nonhomogeneity layer, thin insulation and thick nonhomogeneity layer and thick insulation layer. The kernel for the integral equation is derived for each of these approximations. The results are extended to nonhomogeneities that are functions of the coordinate transversal to the radiator. Finally, a vertical radiator above a layered half space is investigated.
