The authors consider the problem of impurities in a periodic three-dimensional medium. A Bloch decomposition is developed for the one-band model and a representation obtained for the bound states of an impurity in terms of the Green's function for the unperturbed medium. The results of calculations for some particular forms of defects are given in diagrammatic form and a discussion is given of the localisation radius for a single defect.
