The problems in this book, many from Olympiads, have been collected by a noted expert with many years experience training German students for the IMO. They range in difficulty from moderate to extremely challenging, and are organized around types and strategies: techniques of invariance, coloring, extremals, descent and induction, pigeonhole principle, enumerative combinatorics, number theory, inequalities, sequences, polynomials, functional equations, geometry, games. There are over 1300 examples and problems, some provided with detailed discussions and solutions, and almost all with at least solution sketches. This volume is recommended for trainers and participants of high level secondary and the Putnam contests, as well as teachers looking for club and enrichment material.
