This research continues that of \textit{V. A. Baikov, R. K. Gazizov}, and \textit{N. H. Ibragimov} [Mat. Sb. 136, No. 4, 435-450 (1988; Zbl 0683.35004) and Proc. Steklov Inst. Math. 200, 35-47 (1993; Zbl 0813.58061)]. Studied are approximate equations and their approximate solutions. The pivotal examples are linear first-order approximate equations describing invariants of approximate symmetry groups of PDEs. Results give answer to the question of how many independent approximate invariants exist, and what are their natural representatives.
