The authors give a characterization of \(L\)-topological complete regularity [\textit{B. Hutton}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 50, 74-79 (1975; Zbl 0297.54003)] in terms of separating chains of open \(L\)-sets, which generalizes a classic result [\textit{D. G. Johnson} and \textit{M. Mandelker}, J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 4, 510-512 (1972; Zbl 0232.54015)] to the case of an \(L\)-topological space. In addition, part of another classic characterization by a normal and separating family of closed subsets [\textit{E. F. Steiner}, Duke Math. J. 33, 743-745 (1966; Zbl 0151.29604)] is also generalized.
