The author continues his study of general estimates for the degree of (pointwise) convergence by positive linear operators and functionals. A new second order modulus of continuity is introduced. In a slightly modified form this modulus was used previously by the author and by J. A. Adell and J. de la Cal. The optimality of the constants is also discussed.
