A mathematical model of the interaction between the heart, the carotid baroreflex control system, and the circulary system under pulsatile conditions is presented. The model simulates various open-loop regulatory responses characterised by activation of the carotid baroreflex system under pulsating conditions. All simulation results strictly agree with those found in the recent physiological literature. The proposed model may represent a valid tool to understand the complex nonlinear relationships between blood vessels, the cardiac pump, and the carotid baroreflex.
