The finite element method (FEM) is today an important tool to solve many technical problems leading, by mathematical modelling, to various boundary value problems. The author presents a book dealing with this method and its applications from a practical point of view, as one can see from the contents: 1. Practical calculus -- examples and problem; 2. Basic of FEM; 3. Bars and frames; 4. Elastostatics; 5. Potential problems; 6. Dynamics; 7. Nonlinear problems; 8. Problems concerning finite elements; 9. Development tendencies. Three appendices deal with problems concerning mathematics, physics and mechanics of solids. The bibliography contains classical and standard books (16 titles). The book can be useful for students and design engineers.
