The authors study stresses and displacements of classical linear quasi-static axially-symmetric thermoelasticity in a single homogeneous isotropic layer that is bonded to a rigid nonconducting semi-space, due to heat input from a repetitively pulsed laser. The pulse train consists of a series of pulses, each having a Gaussian mode structure and temporal profile that can be shaped by adjusting appropriate parameters. The boundary value problem for the layer is solved by using a superposition method: the solution in the form of infinite real-value integrals is a sum of two components one of which is generated by a thermoelastic displacement potential and other by the Love function of isothermal elasticity. The case of a train of three pulses is discussed numerically and graphically.
