The paper is concerned with the numerical solution of boundary value problems for higher- (and mixed-) order ordinary differential equations (ODEs). After the transformation of the problem into a first-order system, Runge-Kutta and multiple shooting methods are applied, where the special structure of the original problem is exploited in the actual computation. Compared with ``usual'' schemes, this provides savings in computing time about 20-30\%, as demonstrated in several examples.
