In this paper a brief review of Joukowski's main works on hydrodynamics is given. Following Poinsot in general mechanics and Helmholtz in hydrodynamics, Joukowski widely used and developed his own descriptive geometric representations as an independent fruitful research and teaching method. Joukowski's central result is the theorem on the relation between the lift force circulation. Solving finally the Euler-d'Alembert paradox, this theorem marked a true revolution in the development of hydrodynamics and put Joukowski's name among those of its founders.
