The aim of the paper is to associate to a linear closed loop system a vector Lyapunov function which is suitable for further analysis of related nonlinear systems (it is assumed that the linear system is the linearized version of a given nonlinear one). The compensator of the linear system is observer based. Using the data of modal synthesis and a block triangular canonical form, the vector Lyapunov function is synthesized. The described algorithm is given in a form which is suitable for computer implementation. An application is given.
