The authors study the geometry of the Einstein and Yang-Mills equations by the isometric embedding of the 4-dimensional spacetime of general relativity in a flat semi-Riemannian space of dimension greater than 5. They show that the Einstein and Yang-Mills equations do arise in a natural way under the above stated embedding conditions. The geometry so developed is applied to some related problems in cosmology, spin-2 fields and geometrodynamics.
