The authors first present discrete orthogonal functions and their properties. Then, they discuss the analysis of various discrete-time systems: linear time invariant, linear time-varying described by state-space equations and by difference equations and also nonlinear systems. In all cases it is shown that the analysis of such systems does not provide any computational advantage over standard numerical techniques as the algorithms are nonrecursive; the computation involves the Kronecker product of matrices, increasing the size of matrices used in the algorithms and also involves inversion of large matrices.
