Comments on Neveu-Schwarz five-branes (Q1389119)

When \(M\)-theory is restricted to \(k\) coincident Neveu-Schwarz five-branes and the limit of infinite eleven-dimensional Planck scale is taken, one obtains a complete field theory on the five-branes [\textit{A. Strominger}, Phys. Lett. B 383, 44-47 (1996; Zbl 0903.53053), see the preceding review]. The authors generalize this construction to various cases where \(M\)-theory is compactified or where the starting point is type IIA or type IIB string theory or compactifications thereof. Various equivalences are observed and contact with matrix models is made.
