The author considers the symbolic sequences obtained by iterating a function that concatenates a finite string with a truncated copy of it (with or without a reflection). The main result is the proof of a conjecture by \textit{F. Blanchard} and \textit{S. Fabre} [Theor. Comput. Sci. 123, 55-60 (1994; Zbl 0801.68142)] concerning the automaticity of such sequences.
