An analytic method is introduced in strong nonlinear autonomous stability analysis of the themohaline double-diffusive system. The perturbation technique is used to obtain conditions for existence and stability of linear and nonlinear periodic solutions. For linear periodic solution in infinitesimal motion, the existence ranges of monotonic branch and oscillatory branch are outlined. We show than under certain conditions the oscillatory branch of nonlinear periodic solution in finite-amplitude motion can have unstable periodic solution.
