This paper is centred on the classical Landau problem of an electron plasma in a metal occupying a half-space in an alternating electric field. An exact expression is derived for the response of conduction electrons to the external field. Explicit expressions are found for the electron distribution function and the screened electric field. The cutoff frequency of the external field above is determined.
