Asymptotics of the electromagnetic field generated by a point source in a layered medium (Q1395298)

The method of asymptotic perturbation of the fundamental solution to the wave equation is applied to calculate the fast-oscillating integrals arising in studies of wave fields in layer media. High- and low-frequency asymptotic expansions of the integrals that determine electromagnetic fields in layer media are derived. It is shown that the asymptotic expressions for the layered-medium integrals can be used to develop an adequate model of electromagnetic wave propagation along a plane uniform Earth surface allowing for ionospheric effects.
