The author proposes an unconventional treatment of the boundary integral equation method for the Helmholtz wave equation. As a result, the boundary value problem in a bounded domain is reduced to an integral equation of the first kind with a smooth kernel. The integral equation is ill-posed in the sense of Tikhonov. A special projection method is employed to transform it into a well-posed infinite algebraic system. A stable method is suggested for solving the system.
